Electric Chair Massage

The American College of Physicians and the American Pain Society recommend massage as a way to alleviate chronic pain. Professional massage therapists use specific techniques to work with strained, and sore muscles. A motorized massage chair performs many of the basic strokes that a professional therapist uses, and can be used any time in your home.

If you have an injury like a pulled muscle or strained back, immediate treatment may include taking pain relievers, applying ice and avoiding strain for a day or two. On-going pain may indicate other health conditions like arthritis or cervical disc problems, which should be evaluated by a physician. Treatment may include massage to relieve muscle spasm and pain.

Massage helps to soothe aching muscles, relax the body and relieve tension. Some forms of massage are also believed to provide health benefits such as improving digestion, boosting the immune system, relieving headaches, stimulating circulation and controlling minor depression.

There are five immediate health benefits of using a massage chair:

1. It aligns the spine and reduces pressure on nerves.

A reclining chair reduces pressure on the spine by supporting the back in a horizontal position. Major nerves run through the vertebrae to peripheral areas of the body including hands, feet, fingers and toes. Tension in the spine or misaligned vertebrae can compress nerves. As muscles that support the vertebrae relax, the spine lengthens and vertebrae resume their natural alignment. When impinged nerves are freed from pressure, nerve impulses travel easily through the spinal column to the extremities.

2. It relaxes your muscles and helps you to maintain good posture.

Massage chairs target specific muscles and use several kinds of strokes to relieve pain. As muscles relax, imbalances are corrected. Relaxed muscles allow the body to move with increased mobility. A natural tendency to alleviate pain is to compensate by using another set of muscles. This often places undue stress on adjacent muscles and ligaments. For example, a sore hip may make someone sit unevenly to reduce pressure on the painful side. This causes the muscles along the lower spine to bear weight unevenly. Neck or shoulder muscles may become strained from misalignment or from bearing weight usually held by the lower spine. After a session in a massage chair, many people feel that their posture and balance have improved.

3. It relieves stress.

Stress affects not only mental well-being; it has a physiological impact on health as well. Stress may cause sleeplessness, poor appetite or high blood pressure. Alleviating stress reduces levels of cortisol in the bloodstream, which helps to control blood pressure.

4. It improves your circulation.

Increased circulation promotes healing. Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to cells and organs and removes toxins. Constricted, tense muscles can constrict blood flow. By relaxing muscles, blood flows to the tissues and organs. The Mayo Clinic reports that some studies suggest that the immune system is strengthened by massage.

5. It stimulates the body’s secretion of endorphins.

Endorphins are neurotransmitters that help to reduce the perception of pain and lessen the effects of stress. Endorphins create a feeling of well-being and enhance immune response. Studies have shown that massage triggers secretion of endorphins.

Massage chairs not only ease aches and pains, but can help relaxation and lower stress. Using a massage chair can have a positive effect on both your physical and mental health.

Multi-frequency Vibroacoustic Therapy – NeuroSpa Station

What is Vibroacoustic Therapy?

Vibroacoustic therapy (VAT) uses sound to produce vibrations that are applied directly to the body. During the vibroacoustic therapy process, a client lies on the specially designed mat or bed or sits in a chair that is embedded with speakers or transducers which transmit specific computer-generated frequencies into vibrations.

Since the human body is over 70% water and since sound travels 5 times more efficiently through water than through air, sound frequency stimulation directly into the body is a highly efficient means for total body stimulation at a deep cellular level.

The term Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT) was coined in the 1980s by the Norwegian therapist and educator, Olav Skille. Research in Europe and throughout North America has shown that audio waves in the range of 30Hz-120Hz transmitted through the vibroacoustic device have a very positive effect on various systems of the body.

How does Vibroacoustic Therapy work?

Vibroacoustic therapy is based on the principle that life is vibration. Matter, including the human body, vibrates all the time, at various frequencies. Sound and music also vary in frequency. Therefore, when the various frequencies of sound and/or music are converted to vibration which is introduced to the human body, it can be utilized to bring the body into a state of healthy resonance.

Because our bodies are composed mainly of water – approximately 70% for an older person and about 90% for a newborn baby, all of this water is set into motion when the body is exposed to these sound vibrations. As this water is moved by the vibration, its molecules are reacting and communicating with each other. As this communication occurs, harmony and a healthy resonance are restored in the body.

The Benefits of Vibroacoustic Therapy

Vibroacoustic therapy is a safe, drug-free, non-invasive approach to reducing pain and anxiety and improving quality of life. Whether you are suffering from work overload or are dealing with a serious medical condition, vibroacoustic therapy is a powerful modality that will help you relax and allow healing to take place.

Vibroacoustic therapy can be used in conjunction with any other therapy, whether it is Western allopathic medicine or alternative therapies. An Estonian physician, Professor Saima Tamm, has said that VAT is “an adaptogenous therapy which has an effect to adapt itself to the needs of the patient. The body listens for signals which are needed in order to obtain full harmony, and start processes in the body which eventually will satisfy the signaled needs.”

A few of the positive responses to Vibroacoustic Therapy may include:

  • Lower Blood Pressure
  • Reduced Pain
  • Reduced Anxiety
  • Better Regulated Limbic System
  • Increased Circulation
  • Shortened Healing Periods
  • Increased Sleep Quality
  • Increased Sense of Calm

What should I expect at my Vibroacoustic Therapy visit?

Clients remove only their shoes and recline on a therapy chair/pod.  Once we make sure you are comfortable, our employee starts the Multi-frequency Vibroacoustic Therapy to address the issues you indicated.

You will begin to feel the gentle vibrational frequencies through the therapy chair/pod and hear the soothing music through the headphone speakers provided.

It usually takes about 20 minutes for the relaxation response to begin in the body and clients report feeling many pleasant sensations.  Abstract thinking slows and body and mind awareness expands.  Some people experience a dream-like, or deep meditative state.  Others fall asleep, report seeing colors, experience clarity and new insight and feel relief of pain or symptoms.

When the session is over, our employee will return to the room to slowly stop the frequencies.

The impact of your session is usually long lasting.  Your body will experience deep relaxation similar to a full night’s sleep, which promotes less stress during the day and sounder sleep at night.

Who should not receive vibroacoustic therapy?

  • Individuals with Pacemakers
  • People with very low blood pressure
  • People with a DVT, bleeding disorder, or recent surgery
